Wokingham Medical Centre

Client: Tudor House & Rectory Road Medical Practice

Architect: Barbara Weiss Architects

A new medical centre has been created by refurbishing and extending a 1980’s office building. The 1,600 sq.m building provides facilities for 16 GPs, 5 nurses, a new pharmacy and a flexible medical suite. The existing structure is a steel frame with pre stressed concrete floors and masonry cladding. A new four storey steel frame addition was added to the front elevation and the refurbishment of the existing building included the amendment of the existing steelwork frame requiring the re-support of the existing floors to provide better integration with the new addition. Two new staircases were installed into the existing structure to improve the circulation. The roof was modified for the installation of new roof lights and strengthened for the new external plant and features a new penthouse conference room.
